Multiplication in Algebra | Difference of Two Squares
Multiplication in Algebra - Difference of Two Squares - Still the same as previous aljbar multiplication, this multiplication also still use the distributive properties. Now we will discuss the binomial multiplication of (x + y) and (x - y). Now you see this picture below :
From the picture we can draw conclusions :
( x + y ) ( x – y ) =
x ( x – y ) + y ( x – y )
= ((x . x) – ( x . y)) + ((y . x ) – ( y . y ) )
= x2 – xy
+ yx - y2 = x2 + y2
Example :
( 2x + 3y ) ( x - 2y ) = 2x ( x - 2y ) + 3y ( x - 2y )
= (( 2x . x) - ( 2x . 2y )) + (( 3y . x ) - ( 3y . 2y ) )
= ( 2x2 - ( 2 . 2 x . y )) + ( 3yx - ( 3 . 2 . y . y )
= 2x2 - 4xy + 3yx - 6y2
= 2x2 - 1xy - 6y2
